of all the installations and reports to us from customers.

BACKING UP YOUR COMPUTER.  We strongly suggest that you purchase good backup software like Norton GHOST or Acronis Back Up Software and to make a mirror image of your hard disk drive as a backup against crashes. Our special search engine program, as do other critical programs running on your computer, use special ID tags to operate.   These tags are recorded in your computer registers.  Only a bit by bit image of your hard disk will retrieve this critical information.

It is the responsibility of each program user to protect their own computers
against a catastrophic hard disk failure.

Please do not reformat your hard disk drive.  If you are going to BACKUP your spider program you must also back up your computer registers AND RUN OUR SPIDER REMOVAL PROGRAM.

==============================

WARNING DO NOT REFORMAT OR RESTORE YOUR HARD DRIVE OR UPGRADE YOUR WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM TO VISTA OR CHANGE YOUR HARD DISK DRIVE BEFORE YOU DO THE FOLLOWING:

IF YOU GOING TO REFORMAT YOUR HARD DISK, UPGRADE THE WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM WITH A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM LIKE VISTA OR SERVICE PACK, OR BACK UP YOUR COMPUTER. It is the responsibility of each program user to protect their own computers against a catastrophic hard disk failure.

Failure to do the above will result in us having to prepare a entire new program for you. Unfortunately this will involve a service charge for reissuing the software. Please also remember that the Job Search Engine is tailored to each computer for maximum efficiency and thus we will have to make up a new special program for you.

Warning: This program must be run on a STAND-ALONE computer. You cannot run it in a shared environment. The program will not run on a LAN or Microsoft Server or a wireless HUB/Router (Gateway Modem) or linksys or in a .net framework environment IF you are using the system as a Gateway for your other computers to connect to the Internet.

The program also requires a clean Internet connection and does not like any proxy firewalls or servers. The program is only sold as a single workstation product and has safety codes to prevent its being operated on a LAN or Microsoft Server or a wireless HUB/Router (Gateway Modem) or linksys or in a .net framework environment IF you are using the system as a Gateway for your other computers to connect to the Internet. The program must reside on the c:\program files directory of the computer that you originally installed and registered. You cannot map the program from a shared resource or mapped network drive.

If you do this the program will NOT work and you may even get an error message "Attempting to run the program on an unauthorized computer".

This information is supplied to assist you in solving problems that you may encounter
when installing and running our Internet Job Spiders.

Reported Problems .. Please click on the item most closely resembling your problem

The most common problem is users that try to run the installation program from within email.
NEVER DO THIS!!

IF WE SEND YOU A ZIP FILE ATTACHED TO AN EMAIL MESSAGE THE PROPER PROCEDURE TO HANDLE THIS ATTACHMENT IS:

  1. SAVE the attached email program to your computer.
  2. XP/2K/VISTA Users, also please make sure that you are logged into your computer as the "Computer Administrator OR Owner" and not a "Limited Account" or "User".   PLEASE NOTE THAT XP/VISTA AND OTHER FIREWALL FILTERS CAN PREVENT A DOWNLOAD AND HANG UP YOUR CONNECTION.   TEMPORARILY CLOSE THESE FILTERS.
  3. Dial Up users: Make sure that all unnecessary programs are CLOSED including POP-UP Killers, Web Accelerators like those offered by NETZERO and AT&T, etc. and that your Internet connection is open. Also make sure that all unnecessary programs are CLOSED including POP-UP Killers, Web Accelerators like those offered by NETZERO and AT&T, etc. and that your Internet connection is open.
  4. Some email filters will screen out .exe programs if they are attachments to email message. So we have embedded the .exe program you need in a ZIP program. We did this so that your email filters would not screen out the attachment. If we did this, after step 1, please double click on the ZIP file and you will see the .exe program within the file. Now please read Steps 4 and 5 and complete Step 6.
  5. Please make sure that all unnecessary programs are CLOSED including POP-UP Killers, etc. and that your Internet connection is open.
  6. Please make sure that you are installing any programs and upgrades on the computer that you wish to do your work on. If your Job Spider is installed on a different computer than the one you receive our message on, then please make a copy of the program and load it into the computer that is home to your Job Spider program.
  7. Then double click on the.exe program to start and complete the installation.

If none of the below solutions are of assistance please write to: orders@gelb.com with the following information:

Note to all parties.. Our programs ONLY supports Windows 95, 98, 98SE, 2000, XP and we have pretested VISTA.   We no longer support Windows NT 4.0 and ME.

Special Note for UK users of the Unlimited Job Spider

1) If the UK Career Sites Package will not install and reports that you do not have a Registered copy.

Answer: The United Kingdom (UK) special career sites package will only install if you:

1) Have installed your Registered UNLIMITED Job Spider on your computer and opened and close the file.  This sets up the special ID tags in your computer that will allow the UK special sites package to install the UK sites.
2) Are a subscribing member of CareerFutures, Ltd.

2) Reported Problem: Error message reporting that there is a license violation. The messages are: "There are no free licenses for this version of Registered Job Spider. Please contact the support organization of Gelb Organization" or "Attempting to run the program on an unauthorized computer."

Answer: You are attempting to run the program on a different computer than the one you originally installed the program on. Your license is for a single CPU only. If you wish to move the program to a different computer please contact orders@gelb.com with your request or be kind enough to order an additional copy of the program.

3) Reported Problem:
I want to reformat my hard disk drive or
I want to upgrade my hard disk or
my computer hard disk failed or
I want to move my program to a different computer or [If you want to move your program to a different computer you must first run our spider removal program.  Please click here to download a copy.]
I want to upgrade my Windows Operating System.

Answer: WARNING DO NOT REFORMAT OR RESTORE YOUR HARD DRIVE OR UPGRADE YOUR WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM OR CHANGE YOUR HARD DISK DRIVE BEFORE YOU DO THE FOLLOWING:

IF YOU GOING TO REFORMAT YOUR HARD DISK, UPGRADE THE WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM WITH A NEW SERVICE PACK, OR BACK UP YOUR COMPUTER. It is the responsibility of each program user to protect their own computers against a catastrophic hard disk failure.

Please do not reformat your hard disk drive or Upgrade your Windows Operating System.  If you are going to BACKUP your spider program you must also back up your computer registers.

To repeat:

    1. If you are going to reformat or
      change your hard disk or
you wish to move your spider program to a different computer or
you want to upgrade your Windows Operating System to VISTA (that also means install a new Service Pack), Back up your hard disk drive.

    2. For a computer hard disk failed problem we cannot offer you any special recovery program. However, hard disk failures are not longer common.   For the past decade, hard disks have MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure) run times of over 600,000 hours.  Since Windows 95 .. all Windows OS's have methods to prepare "start up disks" in case you damage the command.com program.

    3. It is the responsibility of each program user to protect their own computers against a catastrophic hard disk failure. There is little assistance that we can offer you in the recovery of your Job Search Engine.  You will have to reload the entire program.  Unfortunately this will involve a service charge for reissuing the software. Please also remember that the Job Search Engine is tailored to each computer we will have to make up a special program for you.

4) Reported Problem: The .exe file does not download my software or disassemble the program or the program reports a "Internet not connected" or "Installer could not continue" message. Also Review Problem 9.

Answer: If you are getting the image below, all the problems rest in your Windows OS.   We are betting that you are missing the .msi Installer programs for your Windows OS version. Please check to see if you have under the C:\windows folder a Installer folder.  You are looking for the .msi files that Windows needs for installations of Windows components.

Error Message for Installer

Internet Explorer.   Also make sure that all unnecessary program are closed.   This includes POP-UP Blockers, firewalls, virus protection software .. anything that could impede the connection to the internet. Please make sure that I.E. is also closed.   THE ONLY PROGRAM THAT SHOULD BE OPEN IS YOUR WINDOWS EXPLORER.

All files on your computer must be closed and that includes Internet Explorer .. whose Temporary Internet Files FOLDER have been know to hang up the download before you run the .exe program or you will have conflicts. Please DELETE all files in the FOLDER .. c:\windows\TEMP Folder.

By the way, a company called softwarepatch.com has some software called "MoveOnBoot" which will delete the pesky files that XP refuses to delete in the c:\windows\TEMP Folder.  http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/moveonboot.html

Please close all programs as instructed and rerun the .exe program. PLEASE NOTE THAT XP AND OTHER FIREWALL FILTERS CAN PREVENT A DOWNLOAD AND HANG UP YOUR CONNECTION.   TEMPORARILY CLOSE THESE FILTERS. Also please make sure that you are logged into your XP/2K/VISTA Operating System as the "Computer Administrator" OR "OWNER".

Dial Up Users:  Please make sure that all unnecessary programs are CLOSED including POP-UP Killers, Web Accelerators like those offered by NETZERO and AT&T, etc. and that your Internet connection is open.

THIS IS CRITICAL: After you have cleaned up your FOLDERS .. do not forget to do a COLD REBOOT to finalize your deletions.  Below are the instructions in an orderly form:

  • PLEASE CLOSE ALL PROGRAMS BEFORE YOU INSTALL YOUR .EXE PROGRAM TO PREVENT CONFLICTS.
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT XP/VISTA AND OTHER FIREWALL FILTERS CAN PREVENT A DOWNLOAD AND HANG UP YOUR CONNECTION.   TEMPORARILY CLOSE THESE FILTERS AND DISABLE ANY DIAL-UP ACCELERATORS LIKE THOSE OFFERED BY NETZERO AND AT&T.
  • XP/2K/VISTA Users, also please make sure that you are logged into your computer as the "Computer Administrator" OR "OWNER" and not a "Limited Account" or "User".  If you are not logged in as the OWNER the required access to your computer is prohibited by Microsoft XP/2K/VISTA.
  • PLEASE CLEAN OUT THE C:\WINDOWS\TEMP DIRECTORY BY DELETING ALL FOLDERS AND FILES UNDER THIS DIRECTORY.
  • PLEASE DO NOT SAVE THE .EXE PROGRAM TO YOUR C:\WINDOWS\TEMP FOLDER .. INSTEAD PLEASE SAVE IT TO YOUR C:\ DIRECTORY OR CREATE A SPECIAL DIRECTORY FOR THE PRODUCT LIKE C:\SPIDER.   AFTER INSTALLING THE JOB SPIDER PROGRAM YOU CAN DELETE THE DIRECTORY.
  • AFTER CLEANING OUT YOUR FOLDERS .. IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU DO A "COLD REBOOT" TO YOUR COMPUTER TO CLEAN THE SYSTEM AND RESIDUAL MEMORY.   A COLD REBOOT IS WHEN YOU SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER AND TURN OFF THE POWER AND THEN POWER UP AND RESTART THE COMPUTER.
  • BEFORE PROCEEDING, PLEASE CLOSE ALL PROGRAM EXCEPT WINDOWS EXPLORER (DO NOT CONFUSE THIS WITH INTERNET EXPLORER).
  • BEFORE RESTARTING YOUR .EXE PROGRAM .. PLEASE CLOSE YOUR BROWSER AS SOMETIMES IT INTERFERES WITH THE DOWNLOAD.

Another problem could be that your recently downloaded .exe program is being confused with a previous version .exe file.   We suggest that you use the Windows Files Finding program to locate all .exe and .zip files and DELETE THEM.     files can only be used once.

This is how a normal installation will look:

Picture 1 shows the opening page for the install and download procedure.

Frame 1

When you start the jsstarter.exe program you see a Register the Unlimited Job Spider Screen.    You then press NEXT and the next screen is a check for registration screen in which the computer tries to read from our website.

Picture 2 shows the  program checking your registration status.

Frame 2

Picture 3 shows the registration page.  If your computer has been previous registered it will have fields that are filled in.  If not, you will be required to fill in the fields.  In our demonstration frames we are showing one of our entries.

Then you passed to the Registration Screen and you fill in this screen.

If these fields show information that is not yours .. Report it immediately to us at orders@gelb.com

Frame 3

Picture 4 shows the program updating your registration status.

At this stage the computer records this information on your computer and goes to the download page.

Frame 4

Picture 5 shows the start of the download procedure.

If at this stage you get a message"There was an error while connecting to the server. The installer could not continue.  Please check your Internet connection and try again" the following could be a problems.

1) You are using XP and your log into XP is NOT as an OWNER or Computer Administrator.    Then your registration is not recording the information on your computer registers and you proceeding to the next phase which is the download of the software.

2) You have interference from some other program that you are running at the same time you are registering.    This means that you have to temporarily EXIT from all other program except Windows Explorer.  This means close Internet Explorer, any mail program, any virus program, etc., etc.   The only program that you should have open is your connection to the internet and the Windows Explorer.

3) We do not have any way to investigate your computer but we can guess that some program is running that is preventing our install program from completing its mission OR that you have LOCKED your registers and our program cannot install the keys needed for the program to continue (XP is not logged in as OWNER).

4) We must assume that you have installed XP directly from a Microsoft CD and not a copy of a CD.

Frame 5

After downloading the program, the installation will start AUTOMATICALLY.

Click "SETUP" to continue the installation.
If your computer lacks XML then our program will:

-Install the Windows Installer 2.0 and ask you to reboot
-Continue the SYSTEM UPDATE to download the XML parser and do a program start. PATIENCE PLEASE!!

5) Reported Problem: The program locks up and just says the "Program is Loading" in the left window or the sections containing categories does not appear such as sites, states or category sites are inoperable or a new search is inoperable.

Answer (Also look at Problem #9):  If you are using Explorer 6.0 on a server like .NET Server 2003 you may be having a problem with the default.xsl file and some code interpretations.

Please download and upgrade to the latest Version of the Program (Revision 4.3 and up). This will fix the problem

Please review Problem #9.  It is important to note here that the program is designed to check and verify that the correct parser is installed. If the correct parser is not available the program will AUTOMATICALLY DOWNLOAD the correct version from Microsoft.com.

During the download the program will display progress dialog and text saying: "System update".

The program also checks the WindowsInstaller version and updates it to version 2.0 if necessary.  This update is a direct download from Microsoft and is a 1.6MB file.  Dialup users must be patient.

The answers to the below questions will assist us in providing a solution to the problem:

  1. Are there categories filled into the category panel?
  2. Could the program start search and fill results?
  3. May be the program does not prepare correct home page. Please zip the Executables\web directory and send it to us?
  4. What is the Windows version?

6) Reported Problem: My new program upgrade reports that I do not have a Registered copy.

Answer: Here we have one possible cause for the upgrade not completing its installation. The error code is looking for a special set of instructions in the registry of the computer and has NOT found them or found that the program date stamps have expired. Therefore it is rejecting the installation.

Here is the possibility for this happening:

  • You are trying to run your program on a different computer than the one you originally installed the Spider on.

7) Reported Problem: The OPTIONS-MISCELLANEOUS menu DOES NOT offer the second option "Always Use the Internet Explorer". It is missing.

Answer: This is a behavioral design of the program if Internet Explorer is your computer default browser. If there is some other browser set as default (Netscape, Opera) we display a second option, and a different menu containing the "Always use default browser check box".

8) Reported Problem: I cannot save a search. The disk icon never becomes active under any circumstances.

Answer: Please do the following:

  1. Start the program
  2. Select "Search Results" button (second one from toolbar)
  3. Open File menu and see if "Save As" option is enabled

Commonly the "Save As" button is disabled when the program does not display search results or is searching. If there are search results from previous search the procedure above would display them and "Save As" button should be enabled. If the program has just been started and no searches have been conducted the "Save As" feature is not yet activated.

9) Reported Problem: I do not know if I have the correct XML parser installed on my computer.

Answer: WARNING FOR USERS OF WINDOWS 95/98/ME and I.E. browser before Version 5.5: Please close your I.E. browser program before you try to run the Job Spider the FIRST TIME.   We check for XML parser 4.0 using the CoCreateInstance API function and supplying CLSID_FreeThreadedDOMDocument40 parameter for CLSID. If it succeeds then you have the correct parser version, if not we automatically install the correct parser.

If we have to automatically install the parser we first check installer version. We load library msi.dll from system folder and check its version. If it is less than 2.0 we download the installer.

We install it and restart the computer. After that we download the XML parser and install it.

To repeat; if your computer lacks XML then our program will:
-Install the Windows Installer 2.0 and ask you to reboot
-Continue the SYSTEM UPDATE to download the XML parser and do a program start.

Some users find that they wish to install the XML parser themselves.    Please note Microsoft's System Requirements * for installing the XML parser individually.

Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP

*Note: Internet Explorer 5.0 will not correctly upgrade from MSXML 3.0 to MSXML 3.0 SP1 if the MSXML 3.0 DLLs are currently in use. In that case, all applications that load the MSXML 3.0 DLLs need to be closed for the files to be upgraded correctly. Internet Explorer 5.5 correctly handles this case by requiring a reboot if the MSXML 3.0 DLLs are being used by another process.

*Note: Internet Explorer 6.0 uses MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (Microsoft XML Core Services) -- MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) is a complete replacement of MSXML 4.0 and MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1). MSXML 4.0 SP2 provides a number of security and bug fixes. MSXML 4.0 SP2 does not replace MSXML 3.0.

The correct MSXML 4.0 file is msxml.msi and is 5166 KB

To download the XML Parser files directly from Microsoft, please go to www.microsoft.com and the Download Resources category.  Search [Product/Technology "ALL" and Keywords "XML Parser"].

10) Reported Problem: (Also review Problems 14, 22 and 25)The program does not run on my LAN or Microsoft Server or a wireless HUB/Router (Gateway Modem)  or linksys or in a .net framework environment IF you are using the system as a Gateway for your other computers to connect to the Internet and my program is reporting a "Server Busy" message or "Attempt to run the program from shared resource!".

Answer: The program is only sold as a single workstation product and has safety codes to prevent its being operated on a LAN or Microsoft Server or a wireless HUB/Router (Gateway Modem)  or linksys or in a .net framework environment IF you are using the system as a Gateway for your other computers to connect to the Internet or linksys or .net framework environment.

When the user tries to start the program from shared resource or mapped network drive they will receive the below notification and the program will close or halt. In addition, you may get the following error message "Attempting to run the program on an unauthorized computer".   Also if you are trying to use the license removal program it will not work as the required computer register flags are set for READ-ONLY.

11) Reported Problem: The program is issuing a command GetLongPathNameA error in Kernel32.dll.

Answer: We no longer support NT 4.0 because the NT OS does not support GetLongPathName API function. This is from MSDN (The Holy Bible for Windows Programmers)

12) Reported Problem: The menus bar or right side panel or search bars are off the screen and I cannot relocate them to a normal position in the windows.

Answer: On some computers .. when you move the search bar or right panel to a different position and close the program, the computer memory undocks the position of the bar and it stays to the right of the screen.

The below Show Search program will solve this problem.

Show Search Program {Click Here}

  • First close all programs and restart your computer.
  • Then execute the ShowSearch program after you have restarted the computer
  • After its execution the computer should be restarted once again.

13) Reported Problem: When you run your download and the program goes through the extraction, you get some of the following errors: cab file will not open, error -113, TMP file conflict error message.

Answer: We do not know how to tell you this but your Windows OS and even your Internet Explorer may not be properly "fine tuned" for software distribution.

By the way, the same error can be reported as "An error occurred in the Move Data process --103 -106 -107 -113 –117 -135".

NOTE: ONE MORE REASON THAT YOU ARE GETTING A -113 TYPE ERROR IS BECAUSE YOU ARE TRYING TO INSTALL THE JOB SPIDER IN A DIRECTORY OTHER THAN THE DEFAULT DIRECTORY.   FOR INSTANCE, YOU MIGHT BE TRYING TO INSTALL THE JOB SPIDER IN A C:\SPIDER DIRECTORY THAT YOU CREATED.  THE SOFTWARE MUST BE INSTALLED IN THE DEFAULT DIRECTORIES THAT WE HAVE SET UP IN OUR SELF EXTRACTING PROGRAMS.

Most of these problems occur because of a restriction in either Windows/temp folder or Windows/Temporary Internet Files folder. The Windows/temp folder is controlled by your Windows Operating System Maintenance Wizard. The Maintenance Wizard is usually found from the Start button under Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Maintenance Wizard. In most cases, your Maintenance Wizard has not been set to clean your temporary folder after each computer restart.

[Note: Our discussion assumes that your Temp folder exists in c:\windows\temp.  If exists elsewhere please apply this discussion to that particular temp folder and RESET your Windows to the c:\windows\temp folder default as it should be.]

Self-extracting are special files and not Zip files. They are being extracted to the temporary folder on your Windows computer. The other setting is in our Windows Internet Explorer Internet Options program. Under Tools, Internet Options, Advanced you should always check "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed". By the way, this folder will not empty if you close the browser but your Outlook Express is still open. It will only empty after both programs are closed.

[Authors' Note:] We strongly recommend that you COMPLETELY delete all files and folders from your Windows temporary folder.  As sometimes the guilty file that is causing the problem is not in a folder but is a stand alone file in the main folder of the c:\windows\temp folder.

What do I do if I see the message
"Error During Move Data Process -113"?

The solution is to delete all WZSE*.TMP folders displayed in the error message. You should then restart Windows to make sure the temporary files were deleted. For example, if you see the message

An error occurred during the move data process -113.
Component: File Group: File C:\Windows\temp\WZSEO.tmp\data1.cab

You should use Windows Explorer to delete the folder called WZSE0.tmp that is located in the C:\Windows\temp folder. Then make sure that you clear the folder from your RECYCLE bin. Your Windows maintenance program may be set up not to clean out the temporary file and its folders on each restart of your Windows computer.

Next, (this is important!) shut down Windows and restart Windows to make sure the temporary folders were removed. (If you cannot locate any WZSE0.tmp folders, it means that your maintenance schedule is correctly automatically deleting the temporary folder files and folders and everything is clean for your reinstalling the program using your .exe program.)

Just for your information a WZSE0.tmp is created everything you do a .exe installation. The installation creates a two-step installation process. In most cases, the problem you are having could also be caused by:

Your NOT WAITING FOR THE SETUP PROGRAM to finish by itself. If you prematurely cancel the setup the WZSE0.tmp is not removed. You must wait for the program to finish and the automatic SETUP POP UP WINDOW to finish and disappear. It may take 15 seconds or so for the SETUP screen is disappear. PLEASE WAIT.

Again, we remind you to always SAVE YOUR  PROGRAM TO YOUR HARD DISK BEFORE YOU RUN IT.

By the way, we are assuming that you have free space on your C: hard drive to store a temporary file of 2.2 Mb. Because the other alternatives are scary. They are that your hard drive has one or more errors on it. We suggest you perform the following checks:
(A) Check the free space on your C: destination drive.
(B) Run ScanDisk to scan your hard drive for errors.

14) Reported Problem: (Also review Problems 10, 22 and 25)My XP OS is reporting that I am an "unauthorized user" yet the original program was installed on the very same computer.

Answer: Microsoft set up XP to be a single workstation but they also gave users the power to set up a "shared resource" computer. Microsoft anticipating the use of the XP OS computers as both a "Peer to Peer" and "Home Network" system. In fact, they did the same thing for Windows 98, because it can be also used as a server for a 10,000-user base (dependent on the RAM in the computer).

You should always install the Job Spider on an XP OS as the "Computer Administrator or OWNER". However, if you set up another account on the same computer, such as a "Limited Use" account and try to run the Job Spider in this mode, then you have set up a procedure that is declared a "shared resource" setup.

The Limited user account has no permission to write into any registry. It only has permission to read from registries. Our program expects to have full access to the registry to record time and check for a special ID Tag code. The program cannot do this and it reports license violation.

Therefore our Job Spider program will ONLY work OWNER accounts.

Please understand that our Job Spider products are single license and if run in a shared mode (which in practicality can also mean that they can be used in the shared mode by a second CPU workstation) the program will issue a "unauthorized user" message when the program is opened.

So if you have the XP OS, you should always install the Job Spider as a "OWNER". However, if you log off and sign on to the computer as a different account like "Limited Use", then your Job Spider will issue a "unauthorized user" or the infamous Microsoft "run time error" message. Again, this problem will occurred on the same computer that you originally installed your software on as this set up is a violation of our software license which prohibits a "shared resource" environment.

15) Reported Problem: Some of your hard code sites are not responding.

Answer: It is possible that one or more of the hard codes sites do not work. This could be due to many reasons like the site is temporarily down or it when out of business or the site changed the way they accept our parsing methodology.

Sites can change all the time. For example, CareerBuilder.com recently purchased brassring.com so brassring.com is out-of-business. Hotjobs.com was changed by yahoo.com and has a completely different database and new entry site address.  Sites that changed should not bother you because you can use the Automatic Internet Hunting Tool to construct a new search string and continue your work. This is why we created this powerful tool to give you the power to make up unlimited search strings for company employment boards, job search sites, business sites, etc. throughout the world.  So you can use the Automatic Internet Hunting Tool to still search the site you are interested in until we do our next upgrade and repair.   By the way, if you do come across a dead search site, please do tell our technical support staff at orders@gelb.com

16) Reported Problem: I am running a Registered Unlimited Internet Job Spider and when I click on my desktop copy I get an error message saying, "The Trial Copy has Expired".

Answer: We suspect that you still have the Trial Version on your copy along with the Registered Unlimited Job Spider and because of this you are clicking on the WRONG desktop icon. Either the Unlimited Internet Job Spider icon has been erased or confused with the Trial copy icon.

First, please uninstall the Trial Job Spider as you now longer need this program and the wrong icon will be uninstalled. To do this uninstall step, please go to the control panel and under the Add/Remove Program section .. uninstall the Unlimited Internet Job Spider.

Second, please go to the folder c:\program files\gelb organization\Unlimited Internet Job Spider\bin\Unlimited Internet Job Spider.exe and create shortcut to your desktop if you accidentally erased the Unlimited Internet Job Spider icon from your desktop.

17) Reported Problem: I am running the new Netscape browser and on some of my results the browser does not open up.

Answer: The answer to the problem lies in the new Netscape browser and we can do nothing about this problem.  We have correctly extracted the result URL's from the pages and have the correct path to the browser executable file.

Our program works by checking the result of firing the browser that Windows gives. We are firing I.E. if we have false. We do nothing if we have true, because this means that function call succeeded.  I suppose that the browser executable is fired, but while processing command line parameters it fails (buffer overrun).  For earlier Netscapes like 4.7+ we implemented patches that check for main window of the browser. If there is window and it is not visible we killed it and after 3 seconds fire it again.  This is because Netscape’s buffer for processing URLs from command line? The answer is 400 symbols.

Our only suggestion is to always use I.E. as the default browser.

18) Reported Problem: My program seems to running searches very slowly and at times appears to be hanging up.

Answer: We will try to answer your question using the least amount of technical jargon.

The speed of program searches.   This program runs very complicated searches and at times may appear to be slow or hanging up.  As you can imagine for maximum performance we are using a thread pool which is set to 4 threads for Win98 and 7 threads for Win2K based systems.  This is set to use the appropriate amount of computer processing power without stealing all the power from your running multitasking operations. At the beginning of the search there is one request placed in thread pool queue. This request is to pass through the selected sites, and initiate an object for every one and place it in the pool to be processed.

At the status bar displays the count of started requests and the amount of request to be processed from the pool.

Search Status Bar

When a site object is processed it passes through the URL and parses the parameters and 'aliases' as we called them to fill up correct values for search string.   Each stated parameter creates a new request object for every selected state and places it into the queue.  For example when 'All States' are selected the system passes through the parameters and when the stated parameter is reached it creates a new request to be placed in the queue and stops any further processing.

Reading and parsing must be sequential because we are extracting next page link and we have to check did we already read and parsed the page previously.

If the search criteria is USING OR then every search request is extended with new request for every word from the string.  All this means that one request may borrow a thread from the pool for a long time. The queue request waits to be processed when there is free thread. You may try to see the difference between USING AND and USING OR requests as well as multiple state selections.

We limited thread pool for Win98 to 4 in order to minimize the CPU and Internet usage (remembering that many users are using a dial-up connection).  If we have more concurrent read requests, the speed is lower and the chance to have a timeout is greater.  At the same time adding results to the list is a CPU consuming task. Here we are studying the queue, measuring the time for adding the result and trying to give some time to the system after the result is added to process the other tasks as read and parse.

We realize that if the connection speed is slow and there are more concurrent connections we will have the following side effects:
1.      Reading from the sites will be slow, which means that the program will take longer to give results
2.      Some reads will be timed out which will lead to stop further processing.

To speed up the processing the simple answer is to limit the number of URL's in each requests to be processed and divide your requests into batches.  Once you have determined the best sites for you to visit you can always create a Special Category like My Favorite Sites and add your most effective sites to this list.

19) Reported Problem: Win95/98/98SE and ME Computers Are Exhibiting a System Resource Low Problem

Answer: First we want to assure you that this is a Win95/98/98SE/ME problem and it is not a Win2K/XP problem. We want to support Win95 through ME as long as we can and because of this high degree of support we must limit resource usage.

Under Win2K/XP we have no such issue because of extended resources manager that handles practically unlimited resources handles.

As we add sites to one category we have to also add handles, times, etc. and these additions really stress the old operating systems. The problem lies in the checkboxes controls we are using for displaying hierarchical structure of sites categories. Each control uses its own window handle.   Our only answer for the old operating systems was to expand the number of categories. So, the more Job Categories and the less sites in each category will use less resources. This also makes the program more user friendly and more stable.

20) Problem Reported: We noticed that some sites produce the same answers

Answer: Our Sources of Information .. We must be careful not to violate the Intellectual Properties of others.  So all of the source information we supply is available to the PUBLIC DOMAIN.

We are sorry to report that many of the job sites purchase the same job content material from the larger job board sites like CareerBuilder, Monster and others.   Newspaper services like Gannett, Knight Ridder, etc. do this and post the same job search information.   Therefore, in many cases, you will find that when you spider newspapers you will receive the same information.  Our reason for posting these newspapers is that MANY of them add their own area jobs into the state job information returned.  So when you survey a newspaper, please make sure that you are specifically entering the STATE that the newspaper resides in to your search options.

21) Problem Reported:  How do we find the free Employment e-Library ebooks

Answer: When you open your Registered Job Spider you will see a click me sign embedded in our logo on top of the program.  Just double-click the logo and it will take you to the e-Library bonus page.

Pick the correct version that matches your Job Spider.

Please download the program and save the file to a directory on your computer. After saving please execute the program by double-clicking the file on your computer. This will automatically begin the installation process.   WARNING: The e-book programs can only be installed ON THE SAME COMPUTER THAT PRESENTLY HOLDS YOUR REGISTERED JOB SPIDER PROGRAM.  You cannot install the program on a different computer.

To use these free eBooks you must be a Registered User with an unexpired copy of the "Unlimited Internet Spider (tm)".

After extraction the Unlimited Internet eBooks can be found in C:\Program Files\Gelb Organization\Unlimited Internet Job Spider\eBooks Directory".

22) Problem Reported: (Also review Problems 4, 9, 10, 14, and 25)The program reports a "Internet not connected" message

Answer: Some people misinterpret how we check for an internet connection.  In our program we do not pool any serial or ethernet ports to see if there is a connection.   Instead we just open a page on our site.  If it fails to open a page we issue a "no internet connection" message.  So we do not care what kind of internet connection is available - dial up modem, cable modem, DSL, LAN, etc.

If you get an "Internet not connected" message.   Our advice is to open our site (www.gelb.com/ultimatespider) with your Internet Explorer browser.  Also please check if there are any proxy settings set in your Internet options.  Proxy settings could be present if you are using a wireless connection, have a firewall engaged, are using a wireless HUB or Router (Gateway Modem) or linksys or in a .net framework environment IF you are using the system as a Gateway for your other computers to connect to the Internet with your broadband or DSL line, etc.

Also if you just upgraded your I.E. program chances are great that your upgrade is not complete and some of the necessary library of programs were not installed.

Some people install a DSL and/or cable modem in the computer and still leave in their dial-up modem.  This is a NO-NO as there will be a conflict in the network portion of your Operating System.  Also if you are using a DSL modem and it has USB or Ethernet category 5 inputs available.  Don't be cheap.   Pay the $19.99 retail for a Ethernet 10/100 T-Base card and put this in your PCI computer.  The telephone providers like AT&T, Verizon, South Bell, etc. really prefer a Ethernet card.  Also they warn you that Win9X and ME are no longer supported.

If these fields show information that is not yours .. Report it immediately to us at orders@gelb.com

Then you are then passed to the Registration Screen and you fill in this screen.

Frame 3

Picture 4 shows the program updating your registration status.

At this stage this information is recorded on your computer and goes to the download page.

Frame 4

Picture 5 shows the start of the download procedure.

If at this stage you get a message"There was an error while connecting to the server. The installer could not continue.  Please check your Internet connection and try again" that following could be a problems.

Frame 5

23) Problem Reported: The Automatic Internet Hunting Tool does not start.  The Plugin menu does not indicate that the plugin has installed.

Answer: First of all please make sure that you have completed ALL upgrades to your Windows Operating System.  Especially Windows 2K users.

Then CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD a "decency walker" program.

Please open the PlugIns folder which is found in a folder under the c:\program files\Gelb Organization\U______ Internet Job Spider\Plugins folder.   Start the depends.exe file, then open AddSite.dll from PlugIns folder and take a screenshot.

Please send us the screen shot for evaluation.

24) Problem Reported: When I try to upgrade, my computer reports that my license is no longer valid.

Answer: When you upgrade our database produces a special .exe program to run the upgrade.  Do not mix up this .exe program with any other that you may have on your computer.  In fact, it is a good idea to make sure that ALL OLD .exe and .zip files are DELETED.  This is so that you do not mix them up.

The .exe program that is produced for an upgrade should ALWAYS be copied and RUN from your computer and this computer must be the computer that you ORIGINALLY INSTALLED your job spider on.

The upgrade  file first checks for your license and if your computer is different than the original computer that you installed your job spider on reports "that you have no licenses left".

XP Users, also please make sure that you are logged into your computer as the "OWNER" and not a "Limited Account" or "User".  If you are not logged in as the OWNER the required access to your computers registers are prohibited by Microsoft XP.    Also PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR FIREWALL.

This is how an successful upgrade should look:

Screen 1

upgrade_screen1

Screen 2

This is the screen that checks for a copy of the job spider on your computer.  It is checking for a special registry ID code and if the program does not find it then you are trying to install an upgrade on a non-registered computer.   This error message would tell you "that you have no licenses available".

upgrade_screen2

Screen 3

This screen produces the download of the upgrade and then will install the upgrade.  After the download will start the automatic installation.

upgrade_screen3

Screen 4

If you get this screen, then either you have downloaded the WRONG upgrade or your Job Spider has expired.

25) Problem Reported: (Also review Problems 10, 14, and 22) When I try to run my .exe program, my computer reports an error that states that I am trying to run a MS-DOS program and the program autoexec.NT is having a problem locating the file.  Please also review Problem 10 as this situation could also be caused by attempting to install the job spider in a shared resource environment.    Peer-to-Peer, syslink and other network environment constitute a shared resource.

Answer:  .exe is a self extracting file consisting of many components.   IT IS NOT A STAND-ALONE MS-DOS FILE.  For those who have just installed Windows XP Service Pack 2.  If you get the following error message when running the program:  "16 bit windows subsystem" error; c:\windows\system32\autoexec.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows application."

SUMMARY MORE INFORMATION
    Test the Ntvdm subsystem
    Check program-specific issues

APPLIES TO SUMMARY

This article describes how to troubleshoot MS-DOS-based programs in Windows.

Test the Ntvdm subsystem
The first thing to test when you are having problems with MS-DOS-based programs is the Windows Virtual DOS Machine (NTVDM) subsystem. You can use the Command.com utility to test whether the NTVDM subsystem is running properly. To start Command.com, follow these steps:
1.    Click the Start button, and then click Run.
2.    In the Open box, type command.com, and then click OK.
This should start a command prompt window. If this does not work properly, then there is a problem with the NTVDM subsystem, and you should check the following items:
•    Check the Config.nt and Autoexec.nt files in the SystemRoot%\System32 folder for non-standard settings.

Use a REM statement to remark out all entries except the following default entries:

Config.nt
---------
dos=high, umb
device=%SystemRoot%\System32\Himem.sys
files=20

Autoexec.nt
-----------

lh %SystemRoot%\System32\Mscdexnt.exe
lh %SystemRoot%\System32\Redir
lh %SystemRoot%\System32\Dosx
lh %SystemRoot%\System32\Nw16 (only if CSNW is installed)
lh %SystemRoot%\System32\Vwipxspx (only if CSNW is installed)

Another way to accomplish this is to expand Autoexec.nt_ and Config.nt_ from the Windows CD-ROM to the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder.
•    Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to start Task Manager, close all running programs that are running, and make sure that there are no other NTVDM processes running.
•    Prevent all programs from running at startup. Programs can run from two places at startup: the Startup groups, and the Run and RunOnce lines in the registry. You can check these places as follows:
1.    The Startup groups are folders on the local hard disk. They are in the following locations:
•    %SystemRoot%\Profiles\user_name\Start menu\Programs
•    %SystemRoot%\Profiles\Default user\Start menu\Programs
2.    The Run and RunOnce lines are in the registry, under the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
•    Examine the NTVDM system files in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder. Check the following files and make sure that they are the correct version by checking the size and date:

Ntio.sys
Ntdos.sys
Ntvdm.exe
Ntvdm.dll (Windows NT 3.1 only)
Redir.exe

•  The registry entries that are associated with the NTVDM subsystem are:
•  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment
This key stores the environment variables from the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat files for use in Windows.
•  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ VirtualDeviceDrivers
This key stores the device drivers that are used in an NTVDM session. Windows Setup creates these entries when a device driver is installed.

You should next check to see whether the Autoexec.nt and Config.nt file settings are correct. Always try the default settings that are listed earlier in this article. Some programs require special settings or drivers to run in the Config.sys or Autoexec.bat file. If this is the case, there are two options for initializing these files when you starting your program:
•    Enter these lines in the Config.nt and Autoexec.nt files in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder.
•    Create new Config and Autoexec files to be run when starting this program. To do so, follow these steps:
1.    Create the files and save them with the extension .nt in a folder other than %SystemRoot%\System32 (these files are usually saved in the same folder as the program).
2.    Right-click the desktop, point to New, and then click Shortcut.
3.    In the Type the location of the item box, type the full path to the file that you want to run, and then click Next.
4.    In the Type a name for this shortcut box, type the name for the shortcut, and then click Finish. This creates a new shortcut on the desktop.
5.    Right-click the new shortcut, and then click Properties.
6.    On the Program tab, click Windows to open a dialog box for the path to the Autoexec and Config files.
7.    Type the full path to the files that you created, and then click OK in both dialog boxes.

Clicking this icon runs the Autoexec and Config file specified for the program. These settings are subject to the same restrictions as those listed for MS-DOS-based programs.

There are other settings in a program's properties. If your program is not working properly, check all of the tabs and make sure that the program settings are set to the manufacturer's specification. If the program is still not working, contact the vendor of the program to make sure that the program is supported under Windows.

26)  Problem Reported: My Program is Performing Erratically

Answer:  The text search engine will allow queries to be formed from arbitrary Boolean expressions containing the keywords along with the Boolean expressions AND, and OR.     We have provided a mechanism for you to be alerted that a Boolean expression is not acceptable at the site you are searching.   In fact, many users develop a bad habit of just checking and unchecking parameters and switching between Boolean expressions without realizing that they are confusing their computers RAM and system resources.  To prevent this confusion of computer resources you should ALWAYS CLEAR THE PREVIOUS SEARCH with a "NEW SEARCH" request.

If you should accidentally totally confused the computer resources then you will have to exit the program and restart it.  The mechanism that we developed and that can tell you that the program and computer resources are confused is to look at the bottom task bar or status bar (see image below) of our program.

If the system is confused it starts to send bad status statistics.  For example; in a controlled resource situation a search of five sites with the "all state" parameters should give you a read out of something like 1 of 6 or 3 of 8.  Please note that the second number should always be higher than the first.

If you get the left number to be higher than the right number then the computer is having a problem with your request. For example; the number 22 of 6 indicates a problem of confusion.

Now the numbers will change according to the state options and Boolean expressions chosen.  Sometimes the Sites need a request in the code for each state to be examined, so this will increase the right number to be higher.   Also if the number of sites on the right is lower than the request sites + base .. like 4 Sites chosen and the number is 1 of 4 and not 1 of 5+ then this means that one of the requested sites does not accept the Boolean Expression you have chosen.

Below you see a number 20 of 43 and only 6 Sites are being searched.  You would expect the status number to be 20 of 26 but the number is 43.   So the possible scenario could be taking place that some of the Sites have to search more than one subsite for all your answers.    This means that the number of 43 is being recorded because of a possible circumstance that the Sites count to be processed containing the count of processed sites and total count of sites to be processed are more than 6.   So let us just say that if the number on the right is higher than the number on the left the search should be good.    However; if the numbers were 20 of 144 or the left number is HIGHER than the right number then in this situation the computer resources are confused and you should stop the search and CLOSE THE PROGRAM AND RESTART IT.

Status Bar

For the record the Status Bar Fields are:

The sections are as follows:

  • Program status - display information of program status. When the program is started it says Ready which means the program is ready to operate. When you point the mouse over an button or menu entry this area contains help text for the element. When the program is processing search the section says Searching..., when the search is finished - Done, when it is stopped from the user - Stopped.
  • Sites count to be processed - contains the count of processed sites and total count of sites to be processed.
  • Status of the integrated browser window. When the page was loaded it says Done, while loading - Navigating.
  • Count of selected sites to be searched
  • Count of selected states (If you do not pick any individual states for your search this number will read 1000.)
  • Icon representing currently executed activity. When you point the mouse button over the icon you will get hint notifying what the icon means.

27)  Problem Reported: Where do I find the Programmers Manual?

Answer:  The Programmers Manual is part of the automatic installation of the Unlimited Job Spider and can be found in the C:\Program Files\Gelb Organization\Unlimited Internet Job Spider\Job Spider Parsing Manual FOLDER.

28) Problem Reported: We noticed that some sites like CareerBuilder cannot access the job descriptions.

Answer: Some job sites like CareerBuilder, CareerBuilder Canada and other sites that obtain their job information from CareerBuilder require Internet Explorer to be the browser.   The reason is that other browser cannot handle the long URL's associated with the derived result information.

Software Application Compatibility in Vista

Please follow these steps below to ensure that the Job Spider Software will run work on Windows Vista.

WARNING:

Never reset your Vista Computer to a "Restore Point" that was prior to the installation date and time of your Job Spider installation.   Doing so, violates our warranty as this action is considered to be equivalent to a reformat of your computer and you are destroying your license.

If you must do a "Restore Point" prior to the date and time of the installation of the Job Spider then please email us at orders@gelb.com for a special program to remove the license ID of the Job Spider BEFORE YOU DO THE RESTORE POINT CHANGE.  This special program will remove your license ID to a safe place which we can use to restore your program.

Also remember that if you accidentally do a predated "restore point" you can also choose another "Restore Point" AFTER the date and time of your Job Spider installation and retrieve your license ID.

STEP 1

After Installing the jsstarter.exe Program Right click on Unlimited Internet Job Spider icon on your desktop and select Properties.

Click On Properties
